What We Believe

We take our name from Martin Luther, a 16th Century Reformer in the church who taught that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, on account of Christ alone.  He also taught that Scripture alone is the one rule and source for all teachings in the church.  Thus, we are Christians who follow the Lord Jesus Christ as he has been revealed to us in the Bible.  Some of the central teachings that we have drawn from this inerrant Word of God are the following:

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, Word of God and inerrant in the original writings.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His  return in power and glory on Judgment Day.

We believe that God created the universe in 6 days.  He created the first man and woman, from which the whole human race sprang, to live in love under His Lordship.  All people are accountable to their Creator and stand under His Law which demands perfect love.

We believe the first man and woman rebelled (sinned) against God's Law.  They passed this sin onto the whole human race.  The result is that all people have sinned by breaking God's law of love.  God's just penalty for sin is physical and eternal death.

We believe God continues to give grace today through His proclaimed Word, through the sacrament of baptism and the sacrament of Christ's body and blood, the Lord's Supper, through which we are connected with Christ's work on our behalf.  We believe that the Lord's Supper is a confession of our common faith in what God's Word teaches, therefore we practice close communion, that only those who are members of LC-MS churches or churches in fellowship with us are invited to commune at our altar.

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to believe in Jesus Christ and to live a godly life. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved.  To all who trust in Jesus Christ as Savior, God will give the gift of eternal life (heaven).  To those who do not believe, they will be condemned to hell forever.

We believe that God calls all Christians to share this love of God with others by sharing the good news of Jesus and by loving them in deeds.  We do this that others may come to know Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit and be saved from their sins.
